There was a little boy with a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him every time he lost his temper,to hammer a nail in the back fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Then it gradually dwindled down.He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy finally able to tell his father all the nails are gone.
The Father took his sin by the hand and led him to the fence. He said,"You have done very well my son,but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger,You leave scars like as in this fence.''
What you say and what you don't say are both important.Proper speech is not only saying the right words at the right time, but controlling you desire to say what you shouldn't .Examples of wrongly using the tongue include gossiping ,putting others down, bragging, manipulating ,false teaching, exaggerating, complaining, flattering and lying. Before you speak, ask,"Is it true,is it necessary, and is it kind?"The uncontrolled tongues can do terrible damage.A few words spoken in anger can destroy a relationship that took years to build. Words are like fire- we can neither control nor reverse the damage they can do.
We have an old sayings - think before you speak. And You will reap what you sow. So speak nice things and you will get nice things.
